Animal Flower Cave
Situated at the Northernmost tip of Barbados, this sea cave is famous for its striking natural rock formations and a sea cave that you can swim in! Make an early lunch reservation at Animal Flower Cafe and then head into the cave for a dip in it’s refreshingly cool water. Kids can explore the caves and enjoy swimming in the pools while admiring the stunning ocean views.
Swimming in a sea cave is a magical experience that both kids and adults will never forget. Whether you're wandering through the cave's chambers or taking a refreshing dip in the tidal pools, the Animal Flower Cave is a must-visit attraction in Barbados.
Visit the Barbados Wildlife Reserve
The Barbados Wildlife Reserve is a sanctuary for both native and exotic animals that gives families a unique opportunity to observe and interact with wildlife in a semi-natural environment. The Wildlife Reserve has two troops of wild green monkeys wondering the property, tortoises roaming free, a massive iguana who likes to escape and walk along the paths, beautiful roaming peacocks, and more.
Located in the northern part of the island, this reserve spans four acres of lush tropical forest. One of the main attractions is the Green Monkey, Barbados' playful and mischievous primate, which roams freely within the reserve. They have feeding times twice a day where you can get up close with the wild monkeys.
The reserve's open layout allows families to stroll along shaded pathways, providing an immersive experience as they observe these animals in a setting that closely resembles their natural habitat.

Farley Hill National Park
Farley Hill is located right across from the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, so feel free to spend the morning feeding monkeys and the afternoon having a picnic at Farley Hill.
Visiting Farley Hill National Park in Barbados is an absolute treat for families looking to combine a bit of history with a lush, scenic outing. The park charges a nominal fee for parking (around $2 USD) and offers a fascinating glimpse into Barbados' colonial past. Originally the site of a grand mansion built in the 19th century by Sir Graham Briggs, Farley Hill was once the epitome of opulence, hosting lavish parties and royal guests.
Today, the mansion lies in picturesque ruins, surrounded by the majestic mahogany forest that has reclaimed much of the land. Kids will love exploring the vast green spaces and spotting the local wildlife.
Explore the Beaches
No Barbados family holiday would be complete without time on the beaches. Luckily, Barbados boasts some of the most breathtaking beaches in the Caribbean. Whether your family is looking for calm and shallow waters for young children or thrilling waves for water sports enthusiasts, Barbados has it all. Here are a few family-favorite beaches:
Carlisle Bay Beach: This is where my kids take sailing lessons, so we spend every Saturday here! Carlisle Bay offers calm, crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. If you visit Carlisle Bay, be sure to get a fish cutter from Cuz’!
Accra Beach: This south coast beach is perfect for families with its calm, gentle waves and plenty of shade provided by palm trees. This is where my kids took surfing lessons. The waves aren’t huge, so it’s perfect for learning.
Heywoods Beach: While this beach is in the North in Speightstown, it’s worth the effort. A stunning beach with very calm pools. Bring a lunch and stay a while. This is the perfect beach for anyone bringing a baby to Barbados
Folkstone Marine Park: This area has a nice small beach, excellent parking, a small shop, showers/toilets, and a small restaurant. It is located on the West Coast just North of Holetown.

Take a Surfing Class
Barbados is the perfect place to learn how to surf! Both of my big kids have taken surfing lessons and stood up on day one! Here in Barbados you can find huge surfing waves or less intimidating waves that are perfect for learning.
Take a Sailing Class
Both of my kids take sailing classes with Set Sail Barbados at Carlisle Bay. They are located at the Barbados Cruising Club and offer single say sailing classes or you can sign up for a full term! My kids started at ages 5 and 7. The sailing instructors are extremely professional and work well with children. If you book a class with Set Sail Barbados (Dominic), tell them Tavia sent you!
Explore the East Coast, Bathsheba
Bathsheba, Barbados is located on the less popular East Coast. The East Coast, or Green Coast, is one of Barbados’s hidden gems. Bathsheba is one of the best things to do in Barbados for families.
We absolutely love going to the East Coast to swim in the natural sea pools, climb through the open rock caves, search for sea shells, and just enjoy the diversity of the rocky coast. This coast is not safe for swimming in the ocean, but pools are crystal clear and calm. They are absolutely perfect for swimming and safe!
Pro Tip: ONLY go when it’s low tide or you will not be able to walk among the coral rocks or swim in the natural sea pools.
