Welcome Stone
Located in the North East part of the island amidst the lush landscape of Grenada, Welcome Stone is a must see for any visitor to the island. This is one of the most Instagramable spots in Grenada!
The hike to this scenic overlook is moderately challenging, offering a blend of tropical flora and breathtaking views. As you ascend, the trail unveils captivating glimpses of Grenada's vibrant greenery and the azure Caribbean Sea. If you can, try to park at the top of the paved hill and start the journey from there. This hill is VERY steep. We started from the top (our tour guide parked at the top) and it was a very short and easy walk to Welcome Stone.
At Welcome Stone's summit, the panoramic vista comes into view, revealing the stunning sister islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique in the distance. This natural vantage point showcases Grenada's diverse topography, with its rolling hills, dense forests, and pristine coastline.
Visit a Waterfall
Grenada is not only known for its aromatic nutmeg, but also for its captivating waterfalls. With over twenty waterfalls spread across the island, Grenada is a perfect place for nature lovers.
Among the most easily accessible waterfalls are Annandale Falls, Concord Falls, and Seven Sisters Falls.
Annandale Falls, just a short drive from St. George's, is a delightful introduction with its 30-foot cascade. They also have a restaurant on site and clean restrooms. I recommend going about 15 minutes before they open if you want the place to yourself. You can have lunch while looking at the falls.
Concord Falls, situated in the western part of the island, comprises three tiers, each accessible through a short hike, making it perfect for exploration. S
Seven Sisters Falls, located in the Grand Etang Forest Reserve, is renowned for its seven distinct cascades and offers a rewarding trek through the island's lush interior. The first 3 waterfalls along this trail are the most popular, so if you want some solitude, consider trekking further into the forest to find the others. (You can hire a guide to help!)
Each of the Grenadian waterfalls provides a unique perspective of the country’s natural beauty. Many of them have pools at their bases for a refreshing swim - we swam so much at Annadale. Visitors can enjoy guided tours or venture out on their own, immersing themselves in the therapeutic sounds of cascading water and the enchanting surroundings that characterize Grenada's waterfall-rich landscape.
While exploring the outdoors in the Caribbean, protect yourself from mosquito born illnesses by always wearing bug spray!
Explore the Beaches
No Grenada family holiday would be complete without time on the beaches. Luckily, Grenada boasts some of the most breathtaking beaches in the Caribbean. Whether your family is looking for calm and shallow waters for young children or thrilling waves for water sports enthusiasts, Grenada has it all. Here are a few family-favorite beaches:
Grand Anse Beach: This is one of the most beautiful and famous beaches in the Caribbean. It’s a 2 mile stretch of soft powdery white sand with warm turquoise waters. There are many lounge chair and umbrella rentals available, many restaurants and bars along the back of the beach for a drink or food. And there is a Spice Market located on this beach, so be sure to check it out. The sunset from Grand Anse Beach is incredible.
Magazine Beach: This southwest coast beach is small and perfect for families with its calm, gentle waves and plenty of shade provided by palm trees. It is less crowded that Grand Anse beach, but offers the same gorgeous views. Public parking is about 100 meters down the hill from the war memorial overlooking the airport.
Morne Rouge: Morne Rouge Beach, otherwise known as BBC Beach to locals, is a smaller beach, but still about half a mile in length. There are plenty of loungers and umbrellas for rent, but there are also many trees along the back of the beach providing shade. There are several beach bars along the beach for snacks and drinks.

Visit Pearl Airport
Pearls Airport is one of the most unique things to do in Grenada. It is the perfect history and tropical allure. Nestled amidst the vibrant greenery of Grenada, the abandoned air field is now used as a drag race track. Driving along the old tarmac, you’ll eventually come down to the final resting place of two abandoned aircraft.
These two aircraft stand as silent sentinels on the airport grounds. These relics, a haunting reminder of a bygone era, were left behind after the United States invaded Grenada in 1983. The planes, once part of the Cuban fleet, now serve as an unconventional yet fascinating display of history.
Explaining the significance of these aircraft to children adds an educational dimension to the visit, allowing them to grasp the historical context of the island. Pearls Airport is also a great place to have an impromptu photoshoot, especially if your little travelers love airplanes!

Visit A Historic Fort
Grenada is home to three historic forts that each tell a compelling story of the island's past.
Fort George is perched on a strategic hill overlooking St. George's. This fort was built by the French in the 17th century and later taken over by the British. From the top, there are panoramic views of the harbor and city. Fort George served as a crucial defensive outpost during various conflicts. (It is currently closed to visitors during a renovation project)
Fort Frederick is the largest fort on the island. It was constructed by the French in the 18th century and played a significant role in Grenada's military history. It withstood the Rebellion of 1795 and became the headquarters of the People's Revolutionary Army during the Grenada Revolution from 1979-83. Its imposing stone walls and cannons provide a glimpse into a bygone era. From the top, there are great views of the harbor and city below!
Fort Matthew was built from 1784 through 1790. Of all the forts on the island, it has one of the most colourful historical pasts, from being a battle ground during the French and English’s struggle for control of the island to a mental institution to a night club! You can self tour this fort and it’s tunnels.
These historic forts are a statement to Grenada's heritage and offer visitors a glimpse of Grenada’s past.
