Where to Stay in Bequia
We stayed at the Mimosa Cottage which is located along the Belmont Walkway and is a waterfront cottage. It was incredible and perfect for us. We stayed with 1 adult, 2 children, and one baby. Being able to walk out the door and be on the beach or walk less than 1 minute to dinner or even walk to town and the pier was priceless.
If you prefer a hotel and not a home rental, I suggest the Bequia Plantation Hotel which is also located directly on the Belmont Walkway. If you’re looking for max luxury, check out the Bequia Beach Hotel located on Friendship Bay.
Walk the Belmont Walkway
The Belmont Walkway in Bequia is a picturesque promenade that embodies the island's rich history and vibrant culture. It was originally built as a means to connect the quaint Belmont village to the bustling harbor of Port Elizabeth. After years of use, it degraded and was rebuilt in 2012.
The Belmont walkway has become a beloved attraction for locals and tourists alike. Lined with colorful shops, cozy cafes, and inviting benches overlooking the azure waters, it offers a serene escape for leisurely strolls or romantic sunset views.

Visit Sergeant Brothers Model Boats
Visiting Sergeant Brothers Model Boats is a must do when visiting Bequia. The shop is a captivating journey into the island's maritime heritage and craftsmanship. Founded by the Sergeant brothers, Winston and Calvin, this quaint workshop has been a beacon for enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
When you step inside, you’ll be greeted by the intricate details of handcrafted model boats, each a testament to the brothers' passion and skill passed down through generations. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Sergeant Brothers Model Boats holds profound cultural significance, preserving Bequia's seafaring traditions and honoring its storied past as a center for boatbuilding excellence in the Caribbean.
As a matter of fact, Sergeant Brothers created a model of the Royal Yacht Britannia, and presented it to H.M Queen Elizabeth on her first visit to Bequia in 1985.
Explore the Beaches
No Bequia holiday would be complete without time on the beaches. Luckily, Bequia’s entire culture revolves around some of the most breathtaking beaches in the Caribbean. Whether your family is looking for calm and shallow waters for young children or thrilling waves for water sports enthusiasts, Bequia has it all.
Princess Margaret Beach: Princess Margaret Beach is a pristine slice of paradise nestled along the island's coastline and named after the British royal who once graced its shores. Princess Margaret Beach has powdery white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The beach's gentle waves provide ideal conditions for swimming and snorkeling, while swaying palm trees offer a shady retreat for relaxation. There are several restaurants and bars along the shores as well as beach chair and umbrella rentals.
Friendship Bay:
Friendship Bay in Bequia is a serene coastal gem renowned for its unspoiled beauty. The beach is nestled along the island's southeastern coast. The waters here are calm and offer excellent conditions for swimming, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. Friendship Bay is known for welcoming smiles of locals and the vibrant beach bars dotting the shoreline.
Lower Bay: Lower Bay is quiet and unspoiled and very beautiful. It is mainly sandy and shelves into the sea quite gently. There are a few rocks at the waters edge, so some care was needed entering and exiting the sea.

Visit Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary
Old Hegg was one of our favorite spots to explore in Bequia!
Visiting the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary in Bequia offers a unique and educational experience that highlights the critical importance of sea turtle conservation efforts. Founded by Orton "Brother" King, this sanctuary is dedicated to the preservation and protection of endangered hawksbill turtles. Visitors have the opportunity to witness firsthand the rehabilitation and nurturing of young turtles before their eventual release into the wild.

Visit Fort Hamilton
Fort Hamilton is one of the best things to do in Bequia. Fort Hamilto connects visitors to the rich history and strategic significance of this colonial-era fortress to the island.
Perched atop a hill overlooking Admiralty Bay, Fort Hamilton commands breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding turquoise waters and lush green mountainscapes. The Fort was constructed in the early 19th century by the British and it served as a crucial defensive stronghold against potential maritime threats and piracy in the Caribbean.
Today, this tiny fort stands as a poignant reminder of Bequia's storied past and the island's role in the region's maritime history. Fort Hamilton is named after Alexander Hamilton’s father who owned a lot of the island’s land at one point.
Hike Ma Peggy
On of the best things to do in Bequia is hiking Ma Peggy. This trail offers adventurers a rewarding trek through lush tropical landscapes and breathtaking vistas. I am so sad we didn’t get to hike this trail, but I was traveling alone with all 3 kids and I didn’t think the baby would cooperate!
The trail, approximately 2 miles in length, presents a moderate challenge with some steep sections and uneven terrain, suitable for moderately experienced hikers. As hikers ascend to an elevation of around 900 feet, they are treated to sweeping views of the island's coastline, including Admiralty Bay and the neighboring Grenadine islands. Also at the summit, hikers are greeted by the iconic Ma Peggy statue, a tribute to the island's matriarch, Peggy Adams, offering a moment of reflection amidst the awe-inspiring scenery.
From this vantage point, visitors can marvel at the charming village of Port Elizabeth from high above. Hiking Ma Peggy not only provides a physical challenge but also offers an unforgettable glimpse into the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Bequia.
